A guide by PGDM College in Hyderabad
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more,
You are a Great Leader.”
-John Quincy Adams
Leadership has always been a debatable topic in the management chambers. Some believe that a person is a born leader and can’t be trained into becoming one and yet other house feels that this is something that comes with experience and can be taught to the individual. The truth is somewhere in between. Yes, some qualities are possessed naturally and others come with experience.
Leadership qualities are taught to students in the pg courses in india among all the PGDM colleges in Hyderabad through a group of activities and projects. Here is a list of 4 qualities that a leader has to possess in order to enter into elite club of managers one day :
- Ability to Collaborate
A leader who comes to any decision after an elaborate iterative process with his team members could never fail in any task whatsoever comes in his hand. Including the team in the decision would inculcate a feeling of ownership among the individuals and hence the productivity would be high.
As a leader, he needs to make a number of decisions that do not have a clear answer; he therefore needs to be able to think outside of the box. A problem has a thousand solutions and a great leader is the one who manages to come up with the most practical and easy to implement solution which is supported by all.
A good leader is the one who has been able to build trust and credibility among his team. He should be integral to take a stand for his team. His actions should match with his words. He should always support his team members and ready to take responsibility for their actions rather than starting a blame game.
A good leader should be adaptable enough to blend with any group of individuals. In his career span, he might have to work with different kinds of individuals in different scenarios. Also “change is inevitable” and only an adaptable leader would be able to make the transition as smooth as possible.
These qualities come with experience and knowledge. Reading about great Leaders of the past is a yet another great way to lit the fire of leadership in oneself.
